Premier Division

The final UTV game of the season had the premiership title resting on it in a winner takes all game between Kings Arms Wheatley & rivals AFC Hinksey played at Sutton Courtenay.

And it was Hinksey who doubled up after winning the Senior league title on Saturday, with a total reversal of the Hedley Toms/Michael Brown final, just two weeks ago, that Wheatley won 3-0.

Hinksey were always in control of this game, an excellent defensive unit, inspired by Triston Lawrence & Toby Webster, rarely allowing Wheatley a raid on their goal. In fact both defences dominated the first period which remained score less, Luke Cuff & Ollie Zaja came closest to scoring for Wheatley, Hinksey striker Julian McCalmon missing from 12 yards after Kieran Davies was taken out by Wheatley keeper Harry Jenkins. The usually clinical McCalmon managed to push his spot kick the wrong side of the post, to ensure parity at the interval.
The second half was pretty much dominated by Hinksey after their best player Davies superbly volleyed them into a 52nd minute lead.

As Wheatley tried to come back their opponents were happy to act on the break & Marlon James finished well on 77 minutes to effectively lift the title. Hinksey hit the Wheatley crossbar after a poor goal kick but it was all over for sure when Jelroy Constant, always a danger, smashed home a late third.

The end of another challenging season for the UTV, one that will see some changes next season but one that ended on a very positive note, two good, committed & sporting teams going at it both playing decent football but without the hassle we`ve seen all too often.

Hinksey worthy champions, Wheatley Hedley Toms/Michael Brown Trophy winners, will live to fight another day & next season will be upon us us, before you know it!

Have a great summer!!!

UTV Sixes are at Sutton Courtenay this Sunday
